Northfield Man Shoots, Kills Self Outside Burnsville Job After Being Fired

Patrick Joseph Graves, 51, was fired from his job Thursday and then shot himself in the head in his car.

A Northfield man committed suicide in front of his co-workers on Thursday after being fired by his employer in Burnsville, according to WCCO.

Patrick Joseph Graves, 51, was fired from Goodrich Corp. on Thursday following a poor performance review on Monday, the TV station reported.

The Pioneer Press reported that Graves locked himself in his car and shot himself in the head once as co-workers watched.

Graves was a divorced father of three. His eldest daughter, 23-year-old Jennifer Graves, told the newspaper that the suicide is a "real shock" to her family.

"Maybe he thought that was the best decision he could make," Jennifer Graves told the Pioneer Press. "Maybe it was impulse in the moment. He had a lot of people that he could have called."

Jill Murphy, who identified herself as Graves' girlfriend to the Pioneer Press, said Graves was battling depression.
