Graves was a divorced father of three. His eldest daughter, 23-year-old Jennifer Graves, told the newspaper that the suicide is a "real shock" to her family.

"Maybe he thought that was the best decision he could make," Jennifer Graves told the Pioneer Press. "Maybe it was impulse in the moment. He had a lot of people that he could have called."
