Northfield Man Faces Federal Child Pornography Charges

Charles Edward Bracken was charged Friday in federal court with possession of child pornography.

A Northfield man is facing federal charges of distributing child pornography.

Charles Edward Bracken, 40, was charged Friday with one count of distribution of child pornography, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and possible fines and forfeitures. The charge also has a mandatory minimum prison sentence of five years.

According to documents filed in U.S. District Court in Minneapolis, Bracken used his computer to distribute an image file that depicted the use of a minor engaging in sexually explicit conduct on Sept. 16, 2010.

The image file was called “2 boys 8-12 (yo),” according to the charges.

Federal forfeiture laws allow authorities to seize not only illegal material, but any property that can be traced to profits or other proceeds that a defendant earned from the offense, along with property used to commit the offense.
