A man and his friend approached Halverson on Thursday to get $40 back that the man had lent to Halverson earlier in the week. Halverson went to his truck and grabbed a gun out of his glove box and pointed it at the man. The man grabbed Halverson’s arm and Halverson told the man and his friend to leave and he wouldn’t shoot him.

The man and his friend returned to their vehicle and called police. The two followed Halverson as he drove away.

Halverson arrived at another residence and talked to someone in the front yard. The gun was still in his hand, facing the ground. Halverson noticed the man and his friend parked nearby and yelled at them, telling them to leave. As Halverson walked toward the vehicle, he raised his gun and shot at the vehicle, the man and his friend told police.  Police later found a bullet hole about 2 inches behind the vehicle’s driver’s side door and 6 inches above the bottom of the vehicle’s body.

Shortly after, police found Halverson driving. Officers pulled him over and arrested him without incident. In his vehicle, they found a small amount of marijuana and drug pipe.

A search of his residence found a gun holster and magazine, ammunition for the gun and a plastic bag containing what later tested positive as heroin.

Halverson’s father told police that his son had called after the incident with the two men and said he threw the gun into a storm drain. Police later found the gun in a storm drain at the northwest corner of College and Sumner streets.

In 2009, Halverson was convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia, a petty misdemeanor. He paid a $50 fine.
