Northfield Man Arrested on Six Felony Drug Charges

Luther Louis Brown, 32, accused to selling undercover agents 3.5 grams of heroin

Agents from the Rice County Drug Task Force (DTF) on Wednesday arrested Northfield resident Luther Louis Brown, 32, on one count of selling narcotics in a school zone and five additional counts of sales or possession of narcotics.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Rice County District Court, Brown sold to undercover agents or informants bags containing "brown powder and chunk material" which tested positive for heroin. The sales occurred at Northfield locations on five separate occasions in February this year. 

According to the complaint, Brown sold a total amount of 3.5 grams of the material that tested positive for heroin.

In his post-arrest interview, Brown denied selling any drugs. He later admitted to selling what he believed to be marijuana.

Sale of narcotic drugs in a school zone is s a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison and/or a $500,000 fine.

Sale or possession of narcotics is a third-degree felony, punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a $250,000 fine.

At the time of his arrest, Brown was serving probation for a prior conviction of receiving stolen property. According to the current complaint, the cases are not related.

Brown is currently being held in the Rice County Jail. No date has been set for his arraignment.
