Northfield High Grad, 19, Killed By Boyfriend With Dumbell, Police Say

Rebecca Kasper, a 2011 graduate of Northfield High School, was found dead in an Arizona apartment on Tuesday.

The body of Rebecca "Becky" Kasper, 19, a 2011 graduate of Northfield High School, was found decomposing in the bathroom of a Tempe, Ariz., apartment on Tuesday.

The Arizona State University student's 22-year-old boyfriend, Luis Soltero, has been charged in her death. A dumbell found at the scene appeared to be the murder weapon, and court documents say a confession, apparently written by Soltero, was found near Kasper's body, the Phoenix New Times is reporting.

Soltero brought Kasper's Minnesota driver's license into a Tempe police station on Tuesday.

"My girlfriend is there and she is dead, and I am not going to tell you anything more without an attorney," he said, according to the paper.

Soltero was hospitalized after telling police he had carbon monoxide poisoning from spending 12 hours in a storage space with his car running.

When police arrived at the apartment, they found her body covered with blankets, a yoga mat and coffee grounds; her head covered with plastic; and her wrists handcuffed. Her face was made "unrecognizable" by blunt-force trauma, according to police reports.

A disturbing, unsigned note that police believe to be written by Soltero was found near Kasper's body and contained the following statements:

  • "I did not treat her right. She deserved better but never accepted it. So I had to make the choice for her."
  • "She died on 420 not because of drugs, but because a sociopath talked and treated her nice."
  • "I don't know where to go from here. Do I kill again, end it with myself or become invisible."

On Tuesday afternoon Soltero was taken from the hospital to the police department.

"Do they still have final meals on death row?" Soltero asked police, according to court documents. "I was wondering if I can order something from Texas."

Kasper attended Northfield High School and Northfield Middle School, where she was an honor student.
