Nine Northfield Businesses Burglarized; $900 Taken

Police are investigating a rash of burglaries that struck several Northfield businesses.

Police are investigating a string of burglaries that hit at least nine Northfield businesses late last week.

Deputy Police Chief Chuck Walerius said exterior doors were forced open to gain entry and similar tool marks were left on all the doors. The break-ins happened either late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

"We were able to obtain some evidence at some of these locations," he said.

Businesses burglarized include Allure Salon, Construction Consulting Partners, the dermatology offices of Heidi Cole, four businesses at the Professional Building at 205 Water St., the Thrifty Parrot and Northfield Eye & Optical, which has been burglarized twice before this year.

In all, about $900 was taken, though not all businesses broken into had money taken. Nothing else was taken from the businesses, Walerius said.

"If there wasn't damage to the door, you wouldn't even know anybody was there," he said.

Police are working leads, Walerius said, and have a video from one of the locations.

with a February break-in of Northfield Eye & Optical. In the February incident, the men allegedly entered the building through the roof. Walerius doesn't believe this most recent string of burglaries are related to the February break-in.

But employees at Northfield Eye & Optical have seen enough. A security system will be installed soon, an employee said.

Anyone with information related to the burglaries is asked to called the Northfield Police Department at 507-663-9494.
