UPDATED: City's South Side Hit with Several Theft from Autos

The majority of the calls were along Jefferson Drive, Professional Drive, Truman Court and Presidential Court.

responded to 13 reports of theft from autos during the weekend.

The majority of the calls were in the city's south side along Jefferson Drive, Professional Drive, Truman Court and Presidential Court.

Deputy Chief of Police Chuck Walerius said all the vehicles were open and no damage was caused to any of the vehicles. Most items taken were electronics like GPS navigation systems and iPods. 

It's the second rash of theft from autos the city has seen this year. In March, into and many items were stolen. Police arrested a suspect in that situation.

Walerius encourages drivers to lock the doors to their vehicles and to remove valuable items when they're not around.

In a press release following the March theft from autos, Walerius said the police can't do their jobs if the thefts aren't report.

"The police department would like to thank the citizens that called into police ... as their assistance in this case was greatly appreciated. This is another reminder to citizens of Northfield that the police department cannot do it alone without the eyes and ears of the whole community. Please remember that if you see or hear anything suspicious during the day or night, to call police and report it."
