UPDATED: Horse Euthanized After Car Hits It on Hwy. 19

The horse was euthanized at the scene of the accident.

An eastbound Honda Accord on Monday morning struck and killed a horse at milepost 166 on Hwy. 19 in Rice County.

The incident, which happened at about 4 a.m. near Dent Avenue in Webster Township, left the driver, Thomas J. Bokman, 46, of Faribault with minor injuries. There was no one else in the vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The horse was euthanized at the scene, according to the Faribault Daily News, after sustaining leg and neck injuries.

Bokman was brought to to be checked out and later released. Alcohol was not detected, according to the MSP. The Honda Accord received severe damage.

The Rice County Sheriff's Office assisted on the call.

The incident, which happened at about 4 a.m. near Dent Avenue in Webster Township, left the driver, Thomas J. Bokman, 46, of Faribault with minor injuries. There was no one else in the vehicle, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The condition of the horse is unknown at this time, the State Patrol told Patch, and is waiting to hear back from a veterinarian treating the horse. The owner of the horse has not been identified.

Bokman was brought to to be checked out. Alcohol was not detected, according to the MSP. The Honda Accord received severe damage.

The Rice County Sheriff's Office assisted on the call.
