DEATH NOTICE: Leota Stewart, 86

Leota Stewart, age 86 of Northfield, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her home. Family graveside services were held at the Northfield Cemetery.

Leota Stewart, age 86 of Northfield, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at her home. Family graveside services were held at the Northfield Cemetery.

Leota Clarice Stewart was born September 21, 1926 in Stoddard, WI, daughter of Herbert and Clarice (Jacobson) White. Her family lived in several towns in Wisconsin before moving to Northfield in 1936. She graduated from Northfield High School in 1944 and then attended Hamline University for 1 year and then the University of Wisconsin where she graduated in 1948 with a degree in Library Science.

She moved to Japan in 1950 where she met Jack Stewart and they were married on June 26, 1953 in his home country of Australia. In 1955 they moved to Northfield and Leota was a librarian at the University of Minnesota from 1955-1963, Carleton Library from 1963-1978, and then the Northfield Public Library from 1980-2004 when she retired.

Leota enjoyed reading, her cats, classic movies, musicals of the 1930s, the Green Bay Packers, and the Wisconsin Badgers football team. She is survived by her daughter Sharin Stewart of Minneapolis and 3 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, brothers Hewitt, Ronald, and Douglas.
