It Was an Honor to Help at Memorial Day

Why Memorial Day and Scouting is important to me.

In the cool morning hours of Memorial Day, my Troop and I set up chairs at the Veteran's Memorial for the .

One of the 12 Scout Laws is that a Scout is "helpful."  As we helped the VFW get ready for the program, I thought about how the help I was providing was nothing compared to what so many men and women have given and are giving to our country.

Because of their work, they are helping me live a free life.  I can give my opinion in class or in public, I can go to whatever church I want, I have the right to be heard. If it weren't for their sacrifices, I couldn't do any of that.  For that I am thankful.

Scouts is full of all sorts of fun things: camping, fishing, hiking, sledding, skiing, bowling, swimming and more.  One of the best things I think I have ever done in my entire 9 years of Scouting is helping with the set up of and the laying of flowers in the .  It is an honor to serve in some small way those that serve us every day.

Thank you to our veterans, those currently serving, and all of their families.  You are all appreciated.
