Mankato Tournament Highlights Busy Week of Team Tennis

It was a busy week for the Northfield Team Tennis teams, as they played in a Mankato Tournament in addition to their regular season matches. The busy week served as good preparation for the season-ending Area Championships that are held on Monday and Tuesday in Lakeville. MANKATO TOURNAMENT

 In addition to their regularly scheduled matches, all the 14U and 18U teams traveled to Mankato to partake in a tournament on Wednesday. Each team played at least three matches against teams from across Southern Minnesota. The Northfield Djokovic team defeated the Mankato Spades 40-20, lost to the Mankato Hearts 35-20, and beat the Mankato Clubs 37-30 in their final match to take third. The Murray team also won two out of three and finished second on total games won. The team lost to the Diamonds 37-30, topped the Clubs 37-22, and edged the Hearts 34-32. The Roddick team took first place with three wins. The team beat the Hearts 37-16, the Diamonds 38-21, and the Spades 40-5. The 18U Nadal team won two of their three matches and finished third, one game out of second. They lost their opening match 38-18 to the Mankato Ballers. Then they picked up wins over the Mankato Aces (30-27) and Waseca (40-11). The Sharapova squad went 1-2, defeating Waseca 30-28 and losing to the Ballers (38-10) and Aces (35-29). The Serena team played four matches, winning two and losing two. The team lost to USCAL 36-15 and the Mankato Strikers 33-24 and beat St Peter 29-28 and the Mankato Smashers 35-23.
