Support Haiti on Give to the Max Day

Nowhere is the need greater. Haiti Justice Alliance supports Haiti the right way: by empowering Haitian leaders.

is here. To mark the occasion, I want to make the case that the Haiti Justice Alliance is doing important work, and doing it the right way. I hope you’ll consider donating to us.

The Needs Are Great

If we take seriously the call to help our neighbor in need, Haiti should always be in our thoughts. The poorest country in this hemisphere, Haiti is only 90 minutes by plane from the U.S.

What’s more, 600,000 earthquake refugees in Haiti are still without homes. To top it off, the world’s largest cholera outbreak ravages the country, introduced by the UN Mission sent to Haiti by the United States. In other words, nowhere is the need – or our responsibility to act – greater.

Haiti Justice Alliance: The Right Approach to Haiti

The Haiti Justice Alliance takes a unique approach to work in Haiti. We don’t work “for” or “on behalf of” Haitians. We work with Haitians. Our partners are Haitian grassroots leaders with proven track records of success. Their work addresses the biggest problems in Haiti: education, hunger, human rights, deforestation – just to name a few.

We do so much more than just give money to support their work. As the picture above shows, we bring the leaders of these organizations to Minnesota. In churches, elementary schools, colleges, and community spaces, they share their inspiring stories with folks here.

When this happens, both sides benefit from the exchange. People here learn about the importance of supporting Haitian solutions to Haitian problems, and we provide concrete ways to do that. In addition to raising awareness, our approach connects youth in Minnesota to the issues they’re passionate about. In our first two years, the Haiti Justice Alliance has funded internships for one Northfield High student and two Carleton students.

With your financial support, we hope to expand this work. We hope to continue exposing Minnesotans to Haiti’s next generation of inspiring leaders. We also want to continue providing internship opportunities with exciting organizations doing justice-oriented work in Haiti.
