Commander of the First Minnesota Regiment at Gettysburg. Colvill is buried in Cannon
Falls.
John Gross, a member of the CVWRT, is a retired American and Minnesota history
teacher who has authored five books on local history topics. A graduate of St. Thomas,
Gross received his master's degree in Minnesota history from Mankato State (now
Minnesota State University) in 1971 where he specialized in researching Minnesota's
roles in the Civil and Dakota Wars. An active member of the Steele County Historical
Society and former board member, Gross frequently lectures and speaks to civic groups
interested in local history. John is a dynamic presenter and is able to truly bring history
alive! He and his wife, Pat, live in Medford.
A brief question and answer period will follow with light refreshments served. Please come
and join us in gaining a better understanding of the American Civil War. If anyone, has
