Meet the Rothmeyers

We are the Rothmeyers. We're new, we're exploring Northfield, and we're excited to meet you!

Moving to a new community can be viewed, surely, in several ways. I've boiled it down to these two: a terrifying re-start and an exciting chance to explore something new.

When I told my mother that I was halting all that I'd built in my former community, packing everything up, and starting over somewhere new, she scoffed at me.

"Jen," I paraphrase and perhaps even embellish for you, dear reader, "you are not starting over. Think of it like you are an artist who has been working on a masterpiece painting. You've spent six years agonizing over every detail, sketching and painting in a rich and multifaceted scene. You've built it step by step by step. Now, it's time to declare it finished, hang that painting on the wall, and start a new painting. You will still get to walk by your masterpiece as many times as you want. You can still pull details from that masterpiece into the new one. But it is time to start a new painting."

I pondered that for awhile and decided my mother was brilliant. (As a side note: this may be the first time she's heard [or seen] me acknowledge her inherent brilliance since before the teen years.) Instead of focusing on everything that I thought I was "losing," I'd instead focus on how we could create a new painting full of life, love, and wonder.

As we explore our community and build that new piece of art, I hope that you will find us and say hi. We are the Rothmeyers.

Our Family

Aaron enjoys tinkering with electronics and other tinker-able items (it's the electrical engineer part of him, Jen thinks), spending time with his children, riding his motorcycle (a Yamaha FZ-6), and finding new beer to enjoy. His favorite place in Northfield is Froggy Bottoms!

Jen spends most of her time writing, reading books, and drinking enormous amounts of coffee. She also likes to ride her bike and jog around town, create elaborate edible gardens, compost (and study her compost), cook from scratch, and crack dry-witted jokes. Like her husband, she enjoys riding her motorcycle (a Ducati Monster) and finding good microbrews (no IPAs please). She also has a deep interest in studying local governments and taking an active role in their functions. Her favorite place in Northfield is the library.

Nate (9) is currently enthralled with Minecraft, Castle Crashers, and Skylanders. (Despite Jen trying to get him to espouse interest in other things.) He reads a lot of books and loves to study history. Bike riding is also a hit. His favorite place in Northfield so far is the archery range, which is one of the main reasons he decided to be accept the move.

Sammi (7) is a budding artist who loves to sketch and paint. She dreams about creating beautiful jewelry and clothing. She also loves to ride her bike, play with her American Girl dolls, and go swimming at the pool. Her favorite place in Northfield so far is the pool! (Of course.)

Gabe (10 mo) likes to eat, clap, and laugh. It's a pretty simple life for this little guy.
