Phi Beta Kappa Lecture

Professor Christine Thomas of the University of California, Santa Barbara will be speaking on “Religion in the Rural Heartland: Epigraphic Evidence from Shepherds and Farmers in the Roman Empire.”

A collection of 609 inscribed votive steles from two rural sanctuaries of Zeus in central Asia Minor presents a unique portrait of the religious aspirations of farming and herding families living far from the urban centers that are the usual objects of excavation and publication.
