Cannon River Woodland Restoration Event

8:30am – 12:30pm
Cannon Falls, MN
Volunteers: 100 Supervisors: 10

Nothing is more beautiful than Minnesota in fall. With fall colors in full view, join us  as we restore land along the Wild and Scenic Cannon River.

In fact, why not make a day or weekend out of it? Come down to volunteer then stay and play and experience what beautiful Cannon Falls has to offer. You can bike on the Cannon Valley Trail, canoe down the Cannon River or enjoy a glass of wine at the Cannon Valley Winery. After the event, be sure stop by free-range turkey farm/store Ferndale Market (http://www.ferndalemarketonline.com/), one of our promotional partners, for their 5 year anniversary event and enjoy free turkey hotdogs, live music and more until 2:00pm.

Volunteers will work within view of the Wild & Scenic Cannon River to help restore bluff savannas, woodlands, meadows, and shorelands. Volunteers will help clear the overgrown woodland to increase the amount of sunlight and airflow which is critical for establishing robust populations of wildflowers and grasses. The primary activity involves and stacking brush, trees, and dead down wood into winter burn piles.

A collaborative project of Great River Greening and the MN DNR Wild and Scenic Rivers Program. This project is made possible with support from the MN-DNR Shorelands Program, the Cannon Bluffs Homeowners Association, the Cannon River Watershed Partnership, Ferndale Market, Thousand Hills Cattle Company and the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
