'This is Northfield' Getting Notice in City

"This is Northfield" is the Northfield Area Convention and Visitors Bureau's new campaign to promote all things Northfield. Promotional flyers are being posted in the windows of several downtown businesses.

“This is Northfield” is a catchphrase that’s gaining momentum in and outside of Northfield.

But what does it mean?

“This is Northfield” is the Northfield Area Convention and Visitors Bureau’s new campaign to drum up interest in—as one of the campaign’s signs calls Northfield—”a classic American river town.” The visitors bureau is part of the Northfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

A recent story in the Northfield News says the promotional campaign includes a website (www.thisisnorthfield.com), a Facebook page, sponsorship on Minnesota Public Radio, advertising on Minneapolis pedicabs and “unconventional guerrilla marketing.”

Campaign flyers are being distributed throughout Northfield and can be seen in the windows of several downtown businesses.

A photo of the pedicab advertising in downtown Minneapolis is posted on the Facebook pages of "This is Northfield" and Northfield.org.

Minneapolis-based Owl Marketing and Haberman Modern Storytellers for Pioneers created the $50,000 campaign, which is being paid for through reserves from the visitors bureau, says the Northfield News.

The campaign’s website features the drawn images that are the centerpiece of the campaign. Accompanying the images are slogans like:

• “A Classic American River Town.”

• “Where history comes alive … and tries to rob a bank!”

• ”Cows, Colleges and Cool!”

• "At the Corner of Quaint and Hip.”

The website links visitors to information about Northfield’s history, colleges, festivals, downtown, art, outdoors, dining and lodging.
