Rice County's severe thunderstorm warning has expired, but the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for the northeastern portion of the county until 7 p.m.

The NWS says excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks, streams, highways and underpasses. Additionally, the NWS reported, country roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks, streams and other low-lying areas are subject of flooding.

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 4 p.m. for Rice County, according to the National Weather Service.

Currently the weather system is moving through the southern portion of the county. There is a chance the warning could be extended.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

IF YOU ARE IN THE PATH OF THIS STORM...PREPARE IMMEDIATELY FOR
DAMAGING WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. SEEK SHELTER NOW INSIDE A STURDY
STRUCTURE AND STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS.

DOPPLER RADAR HAS INDICATED SOME WEAK ROTATION WITHIN THIS STORM.
WHILE NOT IMMEDIATELY LIKELY...A TORNADO MAY STILL DEVELOP. IF A
TORNADO IS SPOTTED...ACT QUICKLY AND MOVE TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IN A
STURDY STRUCTURE...SUCH AS A BASEMENT OR SMALL INTERIOR ROOM.
