Fourth of July: Flea Market and Fireworks

Northfield's Fourth of July celebration will include a flea market in Ames Park during the day and a fireworks display inspired by the memory of "Mr. Northfield" Dan Freeman in the evening.

Two American institutions—a flea market and Independence Day fireworks—are on tap for the Fourth of July in Northfield.

Here are the details:

FLEA MARKET

What’s being billed as the “Sixth Almost Annual Flea Market” will be conducted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday in Ames Park. The sale will feature antiques, vintage items and other merchandise.

A committee of friends, family and admirers of the late Dan Freeman—also known as "Mr. Northfield," who passed away in May—set out to raise $10,000 to pay for Northfield’s annual Fourth of July fireworks display. In years past, Freeman led the effort to raise funds for the show.

With the help of donations from residents and businesses and a $5,000 matching grant from the Northfield Area Foundation, the committee exceeded its goal.

The Northfield News reported on Monday that more than $16,000 has been raised. Click here to read the story.

Donations continue to be collected at the Dan Freeman Memorial Fireworks Fund website. Click here to go to the website.

The fireworks display is expected to start shortly after dusk—about 10 p.m.—in the vicinity of the Northfield Middle School kickball fields. Parking will be available at the middle school, Northfield High School, Bridgewater Elementary School and the Rock Fields.
