Faribault Man Killed in Solo Car Wreck

James R. Holm, 52, of Faribault, died Saturday morning after his car struck a metal pole.

A Faribault man died Saturday morning after his 2002 Pontiac Sunfire left the road and struck a metal pole.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that James R. Holm, 52, of Faribault, was driving southbound on Lyndale Avenue south of Division Street when his car veered off the road.

Holm was wearing a seat belt and no alcohol was detected, according to the official report. The vehicle's airbag deployed and no one else was in the vehicle. No other cars were involved.

Law enforcement was called at 8:54 a.m. Holm died at 9:35 a.m., according to the report.

This is the second fatality on a Rice County road this year.

In June, an 85-year-old Dan Dillon died after his car was broadsided by a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, Daryl Knudsen of Northfield, sustained serious injuries.

Rice County has long been part of the 13 deadliest counties in Minnesota when it comes to road fatalities. Last year, on Rice County roads. Another death in Rice County in 2010 was snowmobile related while a sixth death was attributed to drowning after a car flipped into the Cannon River.
