Delays, Delays, Delays

Northfield's Sixth Street reconstruction project now is slated to wrap up in late August.

Construction crews were moving dirt and removing asphalt on Sixth Street Thursday afternoon as they try to push the delayed reconstruction project along.

The project, which calls for the complete reconstruction of Sixth Street between Water and Washington streets, is three weeks behind schedule, the Northfield News reports. The culprit is a delay by Xcel Energy to move a gas line.

“Our hands are pretty much tied there,” Sean Simonson, the city’s engineering tech coordinator,  told the News. “They lost exactly three weeks.”

The north side of the street was open to traffic heading to the First National Bank of Northfield’s drive-in branch at the corner of Sixth and Division.
