At Least Ducks Have Enjoyed the Rain

At least ducks are getting some enjoyment out of Northfield’s recent period of stormy weather.

Folks walking to the Old Memorial Park pool Tuesday morning could see a pair of ducks frolicking in standing water that blocked a small portion of the paved trails in the park.

While Northfield has received less than one-tenth of an inch of rain since a thunderstorm Saturday afternoon, visible signs of last week’s heavy rain remain. Standing water can be seen in yards throughout the city, and the Cannon River is higher than normal.

The National Weather Service says the rainy and stormy pattern that has made its way through Minnesota as of late is shifty. And, a period of drier weather is on the way.

A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for Tuesday and Wednesday. Here is the text of that oulook:

THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE LATE THIS AFTERNOON
THROUGH TONIGHT...SPREADING FROM WEST TO EAST. THERE IS A SLIGHT RISK
FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS LATE THIS EVENING THROUGH OVERNIGHT NIGHT.
PRIMARY HAZARD IS LARGE HAIL WITH SECONDARY HAZARD OF DAMAGING WINDS... AND A VERY SMALL CHANCE OF ISOLATED TORNADOES. IN ADDITION... THUNDERSTORM CLUSTERS WITH LITTLE MOTION MAY BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING HEAVY RAIN WHICH MAY LEAD TO ADDITIONAL FLOODING.
