Missota Gymnastics Championship for Northfield Again

Gymnasts win but fall far short of expectations as concerns of illness, injury, and confidence cloud their sectional championship outlook.

Performing way below their potential at 143.6, the Raiders' gymnasts were able to hang onto the conference championship because of having beaten New Prague twice during the season.

The performance of this gifted team does not bode well for the Sectional Championship next week, but illness and injury were huge factors with top-rated all-around in the state large school division [Star Tribune 2/5/13]  Bailey DuPay, having to be replaced in two of the apparatus competitions because of injury.  The extent of the injury is unknown at this time, but it appeared to occur on the beam where she finished but removed her most difficult maneuver.

The rest of the team stepped up with Christy Anderson and Alexis Kiefer taking 1st and 2nd in the all-around as well as 1 and 2 on the all-important beam, which followed multiple unprecedented falls on the bars.  Laura Sheehy was very important in replacing DuPay after her injury.
