Build Homes ... Build Community ... One at a Time

Habitat for Humanity encourages you to give on Give to the Max Day, November 15

"Can we have Christmas at our house this year?"  That's what Jordan asked his mom after finding out they were selected for Habitat for Humanity and they were going to get a home of their own.  Jordan knows the meaning of home.  It's not just the structure.  It's not just an address.  It's a space of your own.  It's a place where family gathers and memories are made.  It's a space that parents can be proud of and kids can invite their friends over.

When kids have a predictable, consistent, quiet, safe place of their own - guess what?  They do better!  They do better in school, they have less truancy rates, higher graduation rates and are more likely to attend AND graduate from college!  Those results aren't only great for that kid, and those parents, but it's better for YOU and ME!  When we increase the odds of ONE kid doing better, we increase the odds of their classmates doing better!  One at a time.  That's how we move forward.  That's how we move kids forward.  That's how we move families forward.  That's how we move communities forward.

Rice County Habitat for Humanity builds homes with families who have kids like Jordan.  We partner with hard working families who need a hand up, and not a hand out.  We come together - volunteers, churches, business leaders, civic organizations - to build one house at a time. Nail by nail... board by board... shingle by shingle.  It is one hand at a time, that joins with one other hand, that joins with one other hand that eventually leads to a community that indeed, offers a hand up and not a hand out to families in need.
