Why I Am Running for the School Board

Hello.  My name is Dan Cupersmith and I am running for the Northfield School Board.  I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and give a brief summary on why I am running.

My primary goal in running for the school board is to give back and actively help the community using my skill-set. The current school board is doing a wonderful job at setting the focus and direction for the district and I want to add my support and be a part of that process.  I want to work with others in the Northfield School District to continue providing the high quality of education to the students.  A great education is one of the most important tools we can equip our children with.  I have two children currently in the education system and I am excited about the opportunities that the Northfield schools can provide them, but I also think we need to live within in our means while delivering that level of education.  I believe in working smarter with what we have.  If we are going to accomplish those goals of exemplary education within a realistic budget then we need to hold everyone accountable, from the students to the school board itself. My expertise in the business world with management, communications, financial responsibility and project control will be skills that I can offer the community.

What I see as important initiatives for the school board to address now and also in the future is the Transformational Technology project and funding for our schools in the future. I think Northfield is taking a step in the right direction to expose the students to mobile technology and give teachers the tools they need. This project has the potential to revolutionize the way teachers teach and how students learn, but we need to stay smart on how the technology is used and implemented.  We also need to get input from the teachers on how to implement these tools without them becoming a distraction in the classroom.  Again, with my experience as a software consultant implementing large scale projects, I know I can help set the direction and maintain focus of this large initiative.
