Election Count Down

As we come down to the final days of a busy election season, I wanted to take a moment and share again why I am running for the School Board.

As we come down to the final days of a busy election season, I wanted to take a moment and share again why I am running for the School Board.   My primary goal in running for the school board is to give back and actively help the community using my skill set in finance.  I want to work with others in the Northfield School District to continue providing the high quality of education to the students of Northfield.  I believe that education is one of the most important services we can provide for our youth.  Every child should have the chance to achieve excellence in Academics, Art, and Athletics in a safe environment, while maximizing our educational dollars.  I have two children currently in the education system and I am excited about the opportunities that the Northfield schools can provide them.

Three important initiatives for the school board to address now and also in the future is the funding for our schools, the transformational technology project and eliminating bullying from our schools.

Funding for our schools is always a challenge.  We need to work as smart as possible with the education dollars we have to maximize the return on that investment. If we are going to accomplish those goals of exemplary education within a realistic budget then we need to hold everyone accountable, from the students to the school board itself. My expertise in the business world with management, communications, financial responsibility and project control will be skills that I can offer.

I think Northfield is taking a step in the right direction to expose the students to mobile technology and give teachers the tools they need. This project has the potential to revolutionize the way teachers teach and how students learn, but we need to stay smart on how the technology is used and implemented.  We also need to get input on how to implement these tools without them becoming a distraction in the classroom.  Again, with my experience as a software consultant implementing large scale projects, I know I can help set the direction and maintain focus of this large initiative.

Eliminating bullying from our school system is extremely important.  We need to teach our children at a young age that they have enormous power with their words that can either be positive or negative.  We need to work together to educate them on making the right choices which will bring about continuing and increasing positive changes.
