Monday is World Book Night
The second annual World Book Night is Monday. More than 25,000 Americans will give away free books to spread the love of reading to their neighbors.
World Book Night is an annual celebration designed to spread a love of reading and books. It will take place on Monday, April 23, in the United States, England, and Ireland. On that day over 25,000 Americans will go out into their communities to spread the joy and love of reading by giving out free World Book Night paperbacks to unsuspecting neighbors.
The is the official home of World Book Night in Northfield and Monday its book givers will be handing out their books in locations in Northfield and Faribault. World Book Night, through social media and traditional publicity, will also promote the value of reading, of printed books, and of bookstores and libraries to everyone year-round.
April 23 is a significant literary date as it is UNESCO’s World Book Day, established to honor the anniversary of Miguel de Cervantes’ death, as well as both the birth and death dates of William Shakespeare.

For more information on World Book Night and a list of the 30 books that have been graciously donated by American publishers go to http://www.us.worldbooknight.org. I suspect you'll be as inspired as I am with the knowledge that over 600,000 books will be distributed on Monday in this massive collaborative effort of a mostly volunteer army of readers and booksellers.
