Outdoor Gear, Apparel Store Coming to Downtown

The Gear ReSource, a new, used and consignment outdoor gear and apparel store, is set to open Saturday, Sept. 1, at 200 Division St.

Outdoor enthusiasts won’t have to go far to get equipped for their next great adventure.

The Gear ReSource, a new, used and consignment outdoor gear and apparel store, is set to open Saturday, Sept. 1, at 200 Division St.

“Not only are we a resource for gear, but we re-source gear by taking in used and consignment and people’s old gear and clothing out of the landfill and giving someone else a great deal and a chance to get outside,” said proprietor Robert Stai.

He said the capital S in ReSource is a play on words and reflects that two-pronged business plan.

The store takes the space of , which to 220 Division St., the former shoe .

Stai said being outdoors is a passion of his and he believes many people in the Northfield area share the same interest. He said most people travel to big stores like REI or Cabela’s outside of Northfield and he wants to provide something closer to home and, in his words, at a more affordable price with the used and consignment sections.

Stai also points to seven wilderness-style parks in close proximity, including five in the Northfield area, for the need and push for the store.

“We just think more people should know about (the options) and get outdoors,” he said.

Stai, of Dundas, will operate the story with his wife, Nikki. They will start out with one part-time employee.

“Things will progress as business allows,” he said.

The store opens 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, for a soft opening and will be open until at least 5 p.m. The store will open noon Sunday. Permanent hours are still being worked out, Stai said, but he plans to have the store open seven days a week. A website is also in the works.

As a parent of two Boy Scouts (and our family likes to do outdoors activities from camping to snowshoeing), I'm excited to see this retailer come to Northfield!

This is terrific! I think this store will do well, considering the active population we have here in Northfield.

I'm super excited to see the store open. It fits well with the theme of Northfield. I love the Go Green flare AND the amazing deals on high end labels....yep, super excited!
