Northfield Gets a New Restaurant

620 Grill opens next week in the former space of Butler's Steak & Ale.

Who’s hungry?

Northfield restaurateur Norman Butler is set to open a new restaurant next week in the former space of his Butler’s Steak and Ale, which closed late last year after a year of operation.

Aptly named 620 Grill—a play on its address on Water Street South in the River Park Mall—the restaurant has a soft opening March 16 and opens for business March 17, Butler said.

Chef Greg Brown says the restaurant’s menu focuses on American cuisine, offering hamburgers, wraps, sandwiches and salads.

“We pay homage to the burger,” he said.

That they do.

Brown said the restaurant, which is open for lunch and dinner, features a wide variety of burgers, including one named Buck Nasty.

Those brave enough for the Buck Nasty will be treated to a burger made with fresh angus beef, Guinness and onions caramelised in tan beer, essentially making it a black and tan burger. But it doesn’t end there—it’s topped with pulled pork, barbeque sauce, Mama T’s brisket and coleslaw, all served on a pretzel bun.

“We like to do crazy things,” Brown laughed.

Most nights will have a special or theme, the pair said. Tuesdays feature half-off burgers and Thursdays are college night with a deejay. There will also be karaoke, live music and dancing.

And if Brown’s name sounds familiar, it should.

He, along with about another eight staffers, join 620 Grill from the now shuttered Froggy Bottoms River Pub.

“It’s absolutely great to be back and be able to do this stuff,” he said.
