Curves of Northfield Closing

Curves of Northfield will close April 28.

"We will definitely miss it," said Nancy Sweeny, an employee and client at Curves. "We all loved it."

Curves, a fitness and weight-loss franchise dedicated to providing affordable exercise and nutritional information for women, has nearly 10,000 locations in more than 85 countries.

Northfield owner Margaret Hoffman wasn't available for comment on Tuesday, but left a written message at the facility for clients.

"This morning I sat down and stared at the computer after sleepless months, and it is with a heavy heart and tear filled eyes that the decision has been made to close Curves of Northfield," she wrote. "I am reminded that things happen for a reason—we may not understand them or agree with them, but there is always a lesson to be learned."

Hoffman, who took over the business in 2007 after serving as its manager, wrote in her letter that she had contacted Curves International about closing.

Kathy Carr with Curves International corporate communications confirmed that the Northfield location is in the process of closing. 

Sweeny said the 30-minute workout at Curves was great for clients, as was the camaraderie among the women-only facility.
