Crazy Daze Off and Running

Shoppers head downtown for bargains at Division Street retailers on Thursday.

Crazy Daze started off a bit crazy at the Rare Pair on Thursday morning.

Customers were congregated at the Division Street retailer before the 7 a.m. start of Northfield’s shopping spectacular, browsing through stacks of shoe boxes and racks of clothing under a canopy outside the store.

Shoppers also strolled through the outside displays of other stores along Division Streets as merchants prepared for Thursday’s sale.

Crazy Daze is a Northfield tradition, in which retailers move their wares outside and, typically, sell them at discount prices. Restaurants also get into the act, offering special menu items.

Here are a couple tidbits to remember if you head to Crazy Daze:

• TRAFFIC: Division Street is closed to traffic between Second and Sixth streets, although intersections and the northbound side of Division from Third Street remain open. Be alert for heavy construction traffic near the intersection of Sixth and Washington streets that related to the Sixth Street reconstruction project.

• MEOWS FROM MAGGIE: A portion of the late Maggie Lee’s vast collection of cat memorabilia is for sale in Bridge Square on Thursday. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Northfield Historical Society and Prairie’s Edge Humane Society. Read more about the sale in Sandy Vesledahl’s blog.
