We Need to Focus on People, Not Politics

I believe that the only approach to moving Minnesota forward is to focus on people, not politics.

The end of this long election season is within sight and I know many are looking forward to going to the mailbox not seeing it stuffed with political mailers or turning on the TV or radio without a barrage of ads for this candidate or that candidate. I know I am.

Tuesday we will decide the direction we want to go with our state and nation; we will decide on new leaders for many of our cities and school districts. These decisions are important and they belong to us. It can be daunting to try to weed through all the ads and all the mailings to truly know who our candidates are and what they will do. Often when we vote we do so on faith and trust in the individuals that are running. I like to remain optimistic that all individuals that run for office really do it for the right reasons.

We are facing significant challenges in Minnesota, but those challenges can be met and we can move forward. For too long we have had partisan bickering and discord in St. Paul, making our challenges bigger each year. We can no longer wait to address the problems we face or take an all or nothing approach in the Legislature.

I believe that the only approach to moving Minnesota forward is to focus on people, not politics. This election needs to be about what is best for the citizens of our district and our state, not political parties and special interests. I believe in individuals; I believe in protecting your rights and freedoms. I believe that we can do better than we have been for so long. To do this we need to focus on priorities like education, responsible spending of your tax dollars, and protecting our seniors and our most vulnerable.

No one party can claim to have all the answers to solve our problems. I know that the only way forward is through a process of give and take where compromise is celebrated, rather than demonized. I pledge to be an independent voice that focuses on you and the priorities that will move Minnesota forward for all of us. We all deserve better than going back to the same politics as usual.

I ask for your support on Tuesday and I will always put your voice first.
