Northfield Entertainment Guide Drops 'Northfield'

Goodbye , hello The Entertainment Guide.

Starting with its August issue, which is out Tuesday, the monthly publication will go by the name The Entertainment Guide.

Rob Schanilec, publisher of The Entertainment Guide and proprietor of , said Faribault and other communities like Cannon Falls and Zumbrota have always been part of the former Northfield Entertainment Guide, but said this move allows them to build stronger relationships with those communities.

“And so in building our August issue we’ve moved forward in aggressively establishing partnerships with advertisers, content providers and distribution sites,” Schanilec told Northfield Patch. “Our immediate success will be evident when that issue hits the street. You’ll see a lot more Faribault in it and recognize even more that we are the source for regional happenings.”

Schanilec said distribution will increase by 35 percent to 5,700 printed copies.

Susan Hvistendahl, the Guide's "Historic Happenings" columnist since 2007, says that this is a good move for the Guide, with an obvious synergy between Northfield and Faribault.

"Our August issue will include many entertainment options in Faribault, which would be attractive to Northfielders and vice versa," said Hvistendahl. "My column will be about Gary Briggle, '75, who is directing Into the Woods at the Paradise Center for the Arts in Faribault, a collaborative theatrical production with the .”

There’s also a column from Felicia Crosby about Ryan Heinritz, a Northfield resident who is the executive director of the Paradise Center for the Arts.

The Northfield Entertainment Guide started in summer 2005. The guide can also be found online in PDF format.
