Money Outta Politics

The corrupting influence of money in politics is the root cause of the serious problems our country faces today.  The Occupy Movement is helping focus attention on the fact that the top 1% have a disproportionate influence on our elected officials and the laws they pass.   The Supreme Court's Citizens United decision permitting corporations to spend any amount they wish for the super PAC or candidate of their choice and other similar decisions have undermined the intergrity of elections.  Sweeping legislation to get money out of polictics and the Supreme Courtout of elections is absolutely necessary if we are to have the representative democracy envisioned by our Founding Fathers.
This teach-in will briefly outline the problem, then detail a strategy taht can solve it.  Rob Hager, a moneyouttapolitics.org volunteer, will discuss strategies to remove special interest money from politics, including the Money Outta Politics (MOP) single issue voting strategy.  A Q&A discussion will floolow the presentaion.
Rob is a Harvard-trained attorney who has worked as a public interest litigator of high profile cases such as Agent Orange, Three Mile Island, Bhopal India Gas Disaster, and Karen Silkwood.  He is an international consultant, most recently with the United Nations on anticorruption issues.
