National President of Ladies Auxiliary to the V.F.W. visits V.F.W. Post 4393 in Northfield

VFW Commander Bill Murphy and Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 4393 President Nicole Weaver welcome the National Presidetn of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars to Northfield for lunch.

At just after noon on Sunday April 22, 2012 a large white van pulled up in front of the Northfield Veterans of Wars Post home on Division Street. Approximately 13 Ladies got out and proceeded to be welcomed by VFW Post 4393 Auxiliary President Nicole Weaver and myself, as well as other members of our post.

We were there to welcome the National President of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gwen Rankin to our post for a luncheon. On site for this big event were many representatives of the Mn Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. At the head table for lunch were; Department of Mn Ladies Auxiliary President Debra Tweet, 1st District dept. of Mn aux. President Pat Sable, VFW Post 4393 Aux. President Nicole Weaver, Gwen Rankin (National President), Myself and the State of Mn Ladies Auxilliary Chaplain Doris Anderson.

Prior to lunch VFW Post member Charles Wells did a great job of showing Gwen around the post and they discussed a couple of mini statues given to the post by life member Dianne Evans.

"1Lt. Diane Carlson Evans, ANC RVN (born 1946) served as a Nurse in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and founded the Vietnam Women's Memorial Project in 1984 (now the Vietnam Women's Memorial Foundation), initiating and leading the effort to add the Vietnam Women's Memorial to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C." source:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Carlson_Evans

According to Gwen, each National President must choose an image for there President's book. She chose the image of the Vietnam Women's Memorial which was depicted in the mini sculpture we had 2 of in the post. So, after a brief discussion the 3 Post Members, including myself, decided we would give Gwen one of them as a gift from the Membership of VFW Post 4393. "God must have meant for me to come here," Gwen said as tears of joy ran down her cheek after recieving the gift.

As I had to leave early to get to work, Gwen then presented me, as commander of the post with a coin (picture in gallery) the back side of the coin reads, "We thank you for your service and pray for your continued safety" This is a coin that the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars carries and gives out regularly to troops returning home at the airports.

It was an honor to have met such an amazing and patriotic woman. I have included a few photos from her visit.
