VIDEO: Little Women Comes to the Northfield Arts Guild
A musical version of classic novel comes to NAG's stage.
The musical version of Little Women, Louisa May Alcott's classic novel of four sisters growing up around the time of the Civil War, opens at the Friday, and will run for the next three weekends.
The musical is a recent adaptation of the familiar story of Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth. It opened on Broadway in 2005 and had a 30-city national tour. The musical is "challenging," but the story is heart-warming and family-friendly, said Mishia Burns Edwards, director of the Northfield show. It features a cast of a dozen men and women from high school age to adult.
The staging of the show will be "minimalist," Edwards said, using projections to set the scene and wooden blocks to stand in for furniture. "It's very simple and very focused on the acting and the music," she said.
