Get Ready to Crawl for the Arts, Northfield

Eleven galleries are participating in Friday's Northfield Art Crawl.

It used to be that crawling was reserved for babies and bar patrons.

Not in Northfield.

Northfield has long been a community to advocate crawling for the purpose of art appreciation and, on Friday, it gives it another go with the .

Northfield has seen various art crawls throughout the years and this one, headed up by artist Nick Sinclair and the , won't stray far from the previous incarnations.

It's about art. It's about walking—or crawling, really, if you prefer. And it's about bringing people downtown.

"Some people need an excuse," Sinclair said of getting downtown to take in arts and the businesses.

This rendition of the crawl touts 11 galleries, including stops at:

Ann Mosey, executive director of the Northfield Arts Guild, is using Friday has the opening reception for its WWW. exhibit, which features fiber and textile artists who explored how "communications technology has influenced contemporary life, revolutionizing we interact and process time and experience."

"It's a very interesting show," Mosey said. "It's an incredible range of what that might mean. It's a little unusual for Northfield, so we're excited about that."

Sinclair is hopeful the turnout—both townies and visitors to Northfield—will be good and that he can head up future art crawls, possibly quarterly to reflect the seasons.

"I just want it to be busy."
