History Camp at the Rice County Historical Society

The 2012 History Camp will be held at the Rice County Historical Society June 11 – 15, 8:30 am to 12:00 pm, except on Thursday when the time will be extended until 3:00 pm for a field trip. The cost is $50.00 for members and $60.00 for non-members.  Participants must be entering 4th through 6th grade in the fall of 2012.

The campers will learn about the lives of the early Rice County Native Americans, get a glimpse of a day in the life of a Minnesota Pioneer, spend a morning in a one room school, and visit the sites of early mills in Morristown, Dundas, and Northfield. The field trip activities will include observing flour being ground by waterpower at Morristown, picnicking at the Archibald Mill Park in Dundas, viewing Northfield’s Ames Mill and visiting the site of the James-Younger Raid on the First National Bank. The week will conclude with the camp participants compiling a family history booklet and then sharing some of their Camp experiences with their guests. The following is a schedule of events for the week.
