After  decades of performing some of folk music’s most iconic songs, Pete Seeger’s banjo is quiet.

The folk singer died Monday at the age of 94 after creating a musical legacy that will live on through songs like “If I Had a Hammer.” Seeger was equally well known for his liberal activism. He championed civil rights, environmentalism and anti-war efforts from Vietnam to Iraq.
