Memorial Day Weather: 70 Percent Chance of Rain

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for Northfield.

More rain appears on the way for Memorial Day. The National Weather Service's forecast for Monday is calling for a 70 percent chance of showers and a high of 70. Rainy weather has been all too common so far this month. According to weather service climate information, the Twin Cities metro had received 4.7 inches of rain through Saturday, which was 1.99 inches above normal. The average high for this time of the year in the Twin Cities area is about 72 degrees. HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK The weather service has issued a hazardous weather forecast for the coming week, with a chance of thunderstorms through Friday. Here is the text of the hazardous weather outlook:

THIS HAZARDOUS WEATHER OUTLOOK IS FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA... AND WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT
THUNDERSTORM CHANCES WILL INCREASE TONIGHT FROM THE SOUTHWEST TO THE NORTHEAST. THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT LOOKS LOW BOTH TODAY AND TONIGHT...BUT THUNDERSTORMS TONIGHT CLOUD RESULT IN LOCALIZED HEAVY RAINFALL AND AN INCREASED RISK FOR HEAVY RAIN AND POSSIBLY SOME SCATTERED FLOODING FOR SOUTHWEST INTO WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY
THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE PERIOD. THE THREAT FOR SEVERE STORMS IS LOW AT THIS TIME FOR MONDAY...WITH A HIGHER CHANCE FOR SEVERE STORMS FROM TUESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY. EXCESSIVE RAINFALL MAY ALSO DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION...ESPECIALLY MONDAY AND AGAIN THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. THIS COULD
RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT RISES ON AREA STREAMS AND RIVERS.

Here is the weather service's forecast for the next few days:

Memorial Day: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1pm and 4pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm.  Cloudy, with a high near 70. East southeast wind 10 to 15 mph.  Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
Monday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7pm, then showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after 1am.  Cloudy, with a low around 61. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.  Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Tuesday: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.  Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind around 5 mph.
Tuesday Night: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1am.  Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind around 5 mph.
Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.  Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.  Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
Wednesday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms.  Mostly cloudy, with a low around 65. South wind around 10 mph.
