Keeping Up With The Key

The Key talks pirahnas, fundraising and concerts.

Editor's note: The following comes directly from the Northfield Union of Youth's youth board meeting and is unedited, as we believe an unfiltered look at the community's youth doing good is better than an edited version.

• Spencer would like to buy a pet piranha for the Key! The board's general consensus is "No." But if you are strongly apposed to this decision... Note that you should not attach any personal feelings to this creature. It's not safe here.

• There is a Rotary meeting at the golf club this Thursday around lunchtime. George, Olivia and Becca will be attending on the Key's behalf.

• ALL board members are required to fill out staff evaluations for ALL staff members. ALL.

• Danny and Tom have set the Key up with an incredible fundraiser hosted by Fermentation's in downtown Dundas. Posters and ads will be going up soon, with multiple courses of delicious foodstuffs to be enjoyed! Reported ticket price: $100

• The Key is considering building Adirondack chairs again this spring/summer, which we can then sell to the public as a fundraiser. If you're interested in helping or just love putting your tool belt on, let Amy know.

• New news from the city council meeting! So, apparently, we've become a really big deal recently and the city claims to have high interest in purchasing the Old Key property. If this holds, we could be coming into a nice financial break in the near future.

• Laura Baker students are headed to a Space Base Camp and would like to invite any interested Key kids to accompany them on their trip for free! Kids would be expected to be outgoing on the trip and interact with Laura Baker students as much as possible. That's a pretty decent offer.

• Any Key high schoolers who are still interested in being mentors need to get their application forms in to Rachel W asap. (Olivia, Peter and Mairin specifically!)

Big Zach and Big Quarters (potentially) will be playing at the Key in the near future, in connection with Hip-Hop Club. Contact Cliff or George for specifics!

Book Club is looking for a new book to read. Send in ideas to Rachel W, fast!

Art Night will be designing Ukranian Eggs next Thursday.

Cooking Club (dish TBA) will be happening on March 29th.

• The board needs to plan and schedule a final Board Retreat before the elections in June. Get thinking!
