Voting No: When to Amend the Minnesota Constitution

Speakers to discuss amending the Minnesota Constitution at League of Women Voters kick-off event September 27.


NORTHFIELD: September 12, 2012—The League of Women Voters Northfield-Cannon Falls invites the public to attend its fall kick-off meeting, “Voting No: When Should We Amend the Minnesota Constitution?”


The event will take place September 27 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at St John’s Lutheran Church, 500 3rd St. W. in Northfield. It is free, and open to all.

Two presenters will provide a closer look at the two constitutional amendments on the ballot in November.


Erin Keyes, Assistant Dean of Students at University of Minnesota Law School, and Minnesota Lavender Bar Association Board Member, will review the history of amendments to the Minnesota Constitution and the significance of the Marriage Limitation amendment.

Karen Saxe, local League of Women Voters board member and chair of the mathematics department at Macalester College, with a special interest in voter behavior, will provide information on the potential financial impact to our local area if the Voter ID amendment passes.


Questions will be welcomed after their presentations. Light refreshments will be served.


The League of Women Voters Northfield/Cannon Falls is part of the national League of Women Voters. The League is a nonpartisan organization which studies and then takes positions on public policy issues.
