Northfield Retirement Community to Host Youth Volunteer Autumn Event

Northfield Retirement Community (NRC) has announced the details of its Youth Volunteer Autumn Event. The event will take place on Saturday, October 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Northfield Retirement Community campus. As in the past, this gathering will bring together community members, youth groups, families and others to form meaningful connections, encourage community involvement and enrich the lives of both NRC residents and volunteers.

This autumn’s event marks the fourth Youth Volunteer Event held at NRC. The seasonal events have become a tradition for both residents and volunteers, and many families and groups have carved out a place for the events as permanent parts of their calendars. “Last spring we were thrilled to have a great turnout, and we look forward to seeing attendance grow with this event,” said Milosha Malecha, director of activities and volunteer opportunities at NRC. “We are pleased to see that so many people have come to value these wonderful opportunities to bridge generational gaps while having a significant positive impact on our campus.”

Northfield Retirement Community encourages organizations, groups, youth and families to come and celebrate autumn with the staff and residents of NRC. The event is an outgrowth of NRC’s Backyard Mission, which emphasizes putting Christian love into action. Interaction time between volunteers and residents is one of the main goals for the day. Malecha said, “This is a really special day for all who attend. People of all ages connect as they spend time with one another, improving the campus as they build new friendships. We want to make sure that our volunteers have the chance to get to know some of our residents and enjoy spending quality time with them.”

Those who wish to volunteer should meet at NRC’s chapel at 900 Cannon Valley Drive to sign in before getting started – no preregistration is required. Projects such as planting spring bulbs, raking and other outdoor fall cleanup will be assigned. There will also be a prize drawing and healthy snacks following the project time.

Northfield Retirement Community President and CEO Kyle Nordine said, “Everyone – from businesses to civic groups to local community members – has really shown strong support for NRC. We are blessed to have an ongoing connection with the Northfield area and we hope to strengthen that bond with events like these Youth Volunteer days. All the interactions that take place between the volunteers and residents are both educational and powerful.”
