Ceremonies to Honor Fallen Military Members This Memorial Day

Nearby Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday near Northfield.

Memorial Day is a day to honor and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice—their lives—in military service to the United States. Local ceremonies on Monday give people places to gather to do just that:

Faribault

The Faribault Memorial Day parade will begin around 9:30 a.m. in downtown Faribault.

Lakeville

VFW Post 210 of Lakeville and American Legion Post 44 will present their annual Memorial Day color guard visits at 12 area cemeteries to honor the military service members buried there. The tour of ceremonies will run from around 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The stops on the route will each include a brief presentation, the Color Guard, and the Lakeville North High School band.

Afterward, there will be a brief program at the Lakeville Veterans Memorial at Aronson Park starting around 12:30 p.m.

Similar Memorial Day ceremonies have been performed in Lakeville for more than 50 years.

Burnsville

The Sweet Sioux Garden Club will be holding their annual Memorial Day Ceremony from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Bicentennial Garden.

Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at city hall.

Apple Valley

The Apple Valley American Legion Post 1776 will host an observance starting at 11 a.m. Monday, in Veteran's Park behind the post's building.

Includes units from the Apple Valley American Legion, Sons of the American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Civil Air Patrol as well as music by the Scott Highlands Middle School band.

All are welcome to participate in all events. Bring your family, friends, and lawn chairs. Refreshments will be served starting at 10 a.m.

Eagan

The Tribute & Memorial Plaza in Eagan's Central Park will hold a ceremony at 2 p.m. Monday.

Last year's ceremony, pictured above, saw more than 100 community members turn out to pay tribute to local service members and emergency responders. The Royal Brass Quintet performed and the Eagan Police and Fire Honor Guard posted the colors.

Rosemount

A ceremony will begin around 9 a.m. Monday at the Rosemount Veterans Memorial in Central Park. Music by the 34th Infantry Division Band will play before the ceremony starting at 8:45 a.m.

Last year's ceremony included speakers, prayers, tap and a 21-gun salute involving the Rosemount American Legion and Rosemount VFW.

After the ceremony, the group will visit six Rosemount-area cemeteries. Each cemetery event runs about 15 minutes.
