First Phase of City Hall Construction Nearly Done—Four to Go

A $600,000 facelift inside Northfield's City Hall is humming along, city officials say.

Phase I of a five-phase construction project is just about finished, the city reported in a memo issued on Monday. Recent renovations have centered on the first floor, which now sports all-new gypsum walls, an additional commode in the women's room and more. Work on the air and heating system is 90 percent done, as is painting, and installation of a new ceiling grid and lighting is three-fourths finished. The initial phase is expected to conclude by Monday, at which point the  Finance Department will be able to move back into its original office space.

However, upcoming work will displace the main administrative office, community development and engineering. The Northfield News reports that the entire project should wrap in November.
