EDA Recommends Additional Roads in Enterprise Parks Area

The new roads could be part of the city's five-year improvement plan, according to Northfield News.

Two new roads may become part of Northfield's five-year improvement plan as the city looks toward the development of Enterprise Parks.

According to Northfield News, the Northfield City Council reviewed a recommendation Tuesday night from the Economic Development Authority for possible street additions to Riverview Drive and Industrial Drive, part of developing Enterprise Parks in the southwest part of town:

"One street would extend Riverview Drive to the cul-de-sac at the west end of Honeylocust Drive. Another potential roadway would attach Industrial Drive to Highway 19."

While the road proposals seem to benefit some existing businesses, it could create problems for others. According to the article, Malt-O-Meal (now MOM Brands) and Cardinal Glass Industries has come to the city in hopes of closing Industrial Drive and taking it over as a private road.

The proposal is still in very early stages, and Councilor Rhonda Pownell said it will likely be a conversation starter on how Northfield can be more attractive to new business, Northfield News reported.
