Just like in the real world, building relationships and connections on Facebook takes time and requires a long-term investment. Adding fresh content and being consistent with posts will nurture those relationships and grow your brand. Keep in mind that Facebook is a SOCIAL platform and a great place to bring your brand personality to life. Be authentic. Be real. Be a resource. If you are just starting out on Facebook, here are some tips to get started on your Social Media journey.
1. After creating your page on Facebook and placing your first post, you will want to make yourself the "page owner." I recommend this to all of my clients that have a lot of personal contacts in a smaller community. Personalizing the page will help to build trust among your fans and shows that the information on this page is coming from you. It shows transparency and authenticity. If you are advertising a national brand with no local ties, this may not be for you.
2. After you have reached 25 likes you will need to get a dedicated URL for your page. Visit www.facebook.com/username to access this option.
3. Place your Facebook URL or a "Find us on Facebook" on all marketing materials.
4. Make sure to have a link from your website to your Facebook page.
5. You will need to invite friends to "like" your page. To invite friends, you will have to be using Facebook as "yourself" and not as "your business" and on the right-hand side of the page under the "admin" column you will see "invite friends" - click and from the dropdown menu choose ‘search all friends’ and click next to the contacts you wish to invite. This invite will show up as a notification when they first open their Facebook profile.
6. The next, and probably most important step, is to start engaging with your fans. Post consistently. When your fans start to interact with your posts it will show up in their News Feed and then their friends will see the interaction and you will organically start to spread word about your brand. Word of mouth advertising is by far the most successful form of marketing and this is how Facebook will grow your business.
7. Create a Facebook ad for your Page targeting your customers. Manage your campaign by testing different images and tag lines to see what is successful in creating ‘likes’ for your Page. Change it up, see what works best for your target market.
8. Look at your Facebook insights. Use this information to see what posts are most engaging. Learn about your fan base and demographics and continue to build your Facebook brand around that.
9. Reward people for their loyalty through deals and promotions. Get creative.
10. Reply to Comments and Wall Posts in a timely manner. Frequent visits to your Business Page is important so that you can respond to questions or comments as quickly as possible.
