Highlights of the Council agenda this week:
Public hearing on redistricting: The public comment period for your input on redistricting ends tomorrow, February 21. Maps of redistricting scenarios and comment sheets can be found at the Library, City Hall and the City web site. You can come to the Council meeting and speak to the Council directly, or comment in writing (paper or e-mail) to Deb Little, the City Clerk @ firstname.lastname@example.org
2012 street reconstruction projects: The Council will be declaring the amount to be assessed to property owners: Of the total project cost estimated at $2,950,702, $763,320 will be assessed to property owners adjacent to the project areas. The remaining funding will come from enterprise funds (water, sewer, stormwater), Minnesota State Aid funds, and bonding. The assessment hearing date will be March 20, 2012 (and the assessments are scheduled to be adopted on May 15).
Several Council-led initiatives also may take small steps forward. On the consent agenda: drafting a domestic partnership registry will be referred to the Human Rights Commission, while solid waste conservation and urban forest policies will be delegated to the Enviornmental Quality Commission. The Council will also consider a resolution supporting Complete Streets, forming a task force to draft a policy and setting a timeline for doing so.
