Would You Like a Little Chocolate With Your Northfield Shopping?

Shop owners will sample chocolate Saturday for customers.

If you plan to sample plenty of chocolate, you might as well be walking when you do it.

That’s one goal of Saturday’s Le Tour Du Chocolat in Northfield.

The other goal: Bring folks downtown.

More than a dozen businesses are participating in the new event during a time when consumers traditionally spend less money following the Christmas and New Year’s shopping hangover.

With fashion changing over from the winter season to spring, now is the perfect time to update wardrobes, shop owners say.

“We’re all looking forward to spring,” laughed Diane Sinclair, co-owner of Sisters Ugly.

The folks at Sisters Ugly plan to sample homemade truffles made from a recipe found on the Internet—a recipe, Sinclair points out, that got five stars.

Andrea Alveshere at Aescendant Accessories says she doesn’t really eat chocolate, but that won’t keep the shop from participating in the event.

“Anytime we can get people to come downtown, it’s a good day for us,” she said. “It’s nice when the downtown businesses can get together on these ideas.”

Aescendant will serve fudge—original, cinnamon and cayenne. The store, like many others, will offer deals throughout the day. At Aescendant, customers can draw for discounts.

Also for every store people stop at, they can enter a drawing to win a one-night stay at the Archer House, a $25 gift certificate from the Tavern and other prizes from participating stores.

Sinclair said there should be something for everyone at Le Tour Du Chocolat.

“It sounds like something fun,” she said. “Who doesn’t like chocolate?”

Participating stores include Fine Threads, Glass Garden Beads, Present Perfect, Aescendant Accessories, The Rare Pair, A Bag Lady, Northfield Arts Guild, Anna’s Closet, Sisters Ugly, Eclectic Goat, Bittersweet Eatery and Gathering Place, Monarch, Bierman’s Home Furnishings & Floor Covering, Paper Petalum and Rooms by Taggs 2.
