UPDATE: About 5 Inches of Snow in Northfield, City Declares Snow Emergency

The National Weather Service predicts as much as 15 inches of snow could fall in Northfield.

Update: 6:50 p.m.

The National Weather Service doesn't have an official snowfall tally for Northfield, but neighbor Faribault had a report of 5.5 inches several hours ago. An official measurement from the Northfield Patch Weather Center (a tape measure on a deck railing, ), showed about 5 inches of snow.

Measuresments—official and otherwise—are hard to be accurate with gusts exceeding 30 mph throughout the state.

The NWS says Northfield should expected another 3-7 inches of snowfall Sunday evening, followed by another 1-3 inches Monday afternoon.

The city of Northfield on Sunday issued a snow emergency, which is in effect through Wednesday.

Update: 2:19 p.m.

The city of Northfield has issued a snow emergency.

Parking is not allowed on city streets as snowplow operators plow the streets.

Residential streets are scheduled to be plowed Monday, according to the snow emergency.

Update: 9:06 a.m.

Despite starting a day late, the National Weather Service is now predicting more snow to fall in Northfield and the surrounding area than originally anticipated.

As much as 10 inches of fall could fall throughout Sunday with another 5 inches in the evening, the NWS reports. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for much of Minnesota, northern Iowa and nearly all of Wisconsin and lasts until Monday.

Western Minnesota is currently under a blizzard warning. As the storm moves toward Northfield, the blizzard warning will follow, officials say.

The heavy snowfall and gusts as high as 31 mph will make driving conditions undesireable and officials are asking people to stay home.

There have been reports of thundersnow throughout areas of southern Minnesota.

Spring's not here yet.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Northfield and south and central Minnesota.

Snow isn't expected to start falling until late Saturday, but the storm is predicted to stick around until early Monday morning—intensifying throughout Sunday—and leave behind as much as 11 inches of snow in Northfield.

Gusts could reach 26 mph, the NWS reports.

Officials advise against travel in the expected conditions. For those who travel, plan to allow for extra time and bring with food, water and a flashlight.
